Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning handing Texas A&M International a 3-2 loss at Nolan Ryan Field Tuesday evening.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Javelinas (24-13) scored three times in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead over the Dustdevils (13-24).
In the bottom of the fifth,
David Massey reached on an error with one away. He went to second on a single by
Derrick Walls and to third on a
Miles Holcomb single. Massey crossed the plate for Kingsville's opening run on a hit by
Taylor Taska.
Walls tied the game scoring on a grounder by
Ryan Guedry. The Javelinas took the lead for good when Holcomb crossed the plate on a Baylr Bickerton wild pitch.
Massey had two of the Hoggies six hits.
The pitching trio of
Ryan Benitez,
Cody Williams and
Ryan Scott made the lead stand up. Benitez went 4-1/3 innings just missing his third win. He allowed two runs with one earned. Williams earned the win as he pitched 2-2/3 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts. Scott earned his seventh save of the season tossing a 1-hit ninth inning.
Marty Bigham (1-4) suffered the loss as he loss allowing three runs on three hits in 1-1/3 innings of relief of Garrett Taggart. Taggart went three scoreless innings.
Kingsville moved to 22-0 on the season when leading after six innings.
The Hoggies return to Lone Star Conference action on Friday as they head to Cameron for a 3-game set. Due to a late schedule change, Kingsville will play Cameron in doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. with a single at noon on Saturday.
