Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team split with seventh-ranked Angelo State on Friday with a loss 5-3 in game one and a victory, 2-0 in game two. It was the Javelinas second win over a top 10 team this season.
Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Cortnee White crossed the plate for the Javelinas after she tripled and
Bailey Offill hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 advantage. A second run was scored when
Adela Gomez knocked a single just inside the right-field line driving in
Jaeleen Castro to seal up the win for Kingsville.
In the top of the seventh, Angelo State's Ambra Hill singled up the middle with one out to get on base. Darian Dunn flew out to deep center with White chasing down the ball. Running on contact, Hill had made the turn around second and was tagged out at first when she failed to get back on base.
Lauren Denney (2-2) earned the win in a complete-game performance with no runs, three walks, and seven hits.
Sandra Serna (9-5) suffered the loss for the Rambelles. She went 5.2 innings allowing two runs with two earned on seven hits.
Gomez and White both had two hits in the game. Gomez and Offill each had an RBI. The Javelinas combined for seven hits for game two.
Both teams would get on the board with one run in the first inning of game one. The Rambelles would score first with the bases were loaded and Morgan Spearman hit a fielder's choice to drive in Kelci Garza. Ambra Hill was out at second on the play.
Kingsville scored when
Carynn Gonzales came in after a series of errors by the Angelo infield.
The Rambelles scored three runs in the third inning to make the score 4-1.
The Javelinas scored a run in the fourth when
Taylor McGill crossed the plate after a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Kingsville had an opportunity to get back in the game in the seventh inning with two runners on base.
Jaeleen Castro reached first on a fielding error by first baseman,
Valerie Ramirez singled up the middle, and they both advanced on a wild pitch. Gomez grounded out to short to bring up
Erica Graham. The last run of the game would be scored when Graham singled to the short and drove in Castro.
Mary Kate McKay (11-3) picked up the win for the Rambelles by pitching a complete game for three runs with one earned on 10 hits.
Carlie Clark (4-19) suffered the loss for the Javelinas after a complete game for five runs with three earned on eight hits.
Ramirez, Castro, and Gonzales each had two hits for Kingsville. Graham had the lone RBI for the game.
The Javelinas moved to 11-39, overall and 3-21 in conference for the season as Angelo State moved to 37-10 overall and 19-4 in conference.
Kingsville's next contest will be on Tuesday as the team hosts St. Edward's in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. for their last home games of the season.
