WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's team dropped a 9-0 decision Saturday to No. 19 Midwestern State in its Lone Star Conference opener.
The Javelinas are now 1-6 on the season, while the Mustangs are 8-0. The Javelinas play three matches next weekend. They travel to Austin to face St. Edward's and Northeastern State. On Sunday, they host Cameron at Bishop High School. All three programs are ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
On Saturday, the Javelinas were shutout out in two of three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of
Marija Dimitrovska and
Mariaxi Herrera fell 8-3 to Kayla Casey and Taylor Coffman.
In singles, Herrera went three sets in a battle of top seeds against Casey. She won the opening set 6-4, but dropped the second set by the same score. The third-set tiebreaker finished 10-6. Dimitrovska lost 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while
Tabata Lua fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. In the other three singles' matches the Javelinas did not win a game.
