Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team pounded out 22 hits combined sweeping Friday night's Lone Star Conference doubleheader with Cameron winning the opener 5-0 and run ruling the Aggies 13-3 in eight innings in the night cap.
With inclement weather expected to creep into South Texas on Saturday, the teams have pushed up their Saturday doubleheader to a noon start instead of 1 p.m.
In the first game, Kingsville (8-7, 3-3) received a complete-game shutout from
Taylor Taska. Taska tossed all seven innings scattering five and striking out a season-high nine batters. He moved to 2-0 with the win.
The Javelina offense struck early to help their starter. With one away,
Matt Perez reached on an error and Taska walked.
Ryan Guedry drove in Perez with a single to left. With two away, Wallace drove in a pair of runs with a double to left.
The Hoggies added their final two runs in the third frame. With one away, Taaka and Guedry hit back-to-back sinlges.
Justin Lee drove in the first run with a single, while
James Black hit a sacrifice fly to center for the final run.
Drew Reidt fell to 2-3 as he allowed five runs with four earned on seven hits in five innings.
In the second game, the Javelinas trailed 3-1 heading into the fourth inning. They seized the lead with four runs in the fourth and added two in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Kingsville finished the game with 13 runs on 14 hits. Eight Javelinas posted at least one hit including six with two. Wallace, who was 2-for-3, finished with three runs scored and blasted his second home run of the season for team's first run of the game.
Blake Johnson was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Perez had two hits and two RBI.
Derrick Walls, Taska, and Lee also had two hits.
Dallas Ponder moved to 3-1 on the season. He tossed seven innings striking out nine batters. He was charged with three runs on 10 hits.
Cody Williams pitched a scoreless eighth.
