Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Javelinas Split With Texans On Diamond
KINGSVILLE, Texas – In Saturday's opening game of its Lone Star Conference doubleheader with Tarleton, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team was able to find the timely hitting for a 5-1 win. In game two, the timely hits were not there and the Javelinas fell 1-0.
With the split, Kingsville moves to 19-12 overall and 12-7 in the Lone Star. TSU is now 17-12 on the year and 8-9 in the league. The Hoggies go for the series win tomorrow at 1 p.m.

In the opening game, the Javelinas took control with four runs on six singles in the fourth inning.

With one away, Blake Johnson, Brian Frazier, and Justin Lee hit three straight singles off Colton Burleson to load the bases. Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Clint Wallace, while Frazier came home on a single by Dustin Aguilar. Derrick Walls singled to right driving in Lee. Aguilar raced home on a single through the right side by Holcomb.

In the fifth, Wallace picked up his second RBI of the opener with a hit through the left side to knock in Frazier. Frazier had singled and stole second.

Tarleton State had its best opportunity in the sixth loading the bases off Denver Diefenbach, who allowed three hits in his first five innings. The Javelinas limited the visitors to just one run as Hayden James came out of the bullpen striking out Noel Nevarez and Nick Gilbert popped up in foul territory to Wallace.

Diefenbach would earn the win in the opener to move to 6-1. He scattered three hits and struck out four. Burleson moved to 3-3 as he allowed all five runs on 11 hits in 4-2/3 innings.

In the second game, the Texans scored a run in the top of the first off Cody Williams (1-5). Rustin Thomas led off the game with a double and moved to third on fly ball to left. He would score on a sacrifice fly to left by Jared Musgrove.

While TSU threatened in the second and third innings, Williams didn't allow another run in a strong outing. He scattered seven hits, fanned two and did not walk a batter.

Meanwhile, the Texans' Robert Baker kept Kingsville from getting going offensively. He limited Kingsville to four hits, walked one and had five Ks to move to 4-4.

The Javelinas had their best chances in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings as the lead-off hitter reached all three frames.  
With one out in the third, Aguilar singled, but would be thrown at second after making a wide turn on Wall's single. In the fourth, Black singled and went to second on a sacrifice bunt for the first out but would be left at third.

Holcomb singled to start the sixth. After Black popped on a bunt attempt in foul territory, pinch runner Julian Duran stole second but would be stranded.

In the bottom of the seventh, Frazier led off with a walk. Pinch runner Ryan Fickel moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Lee. After Wallace went down strikes, Fickel moved to third on a wild pitch but was stranded as Travis Laird flew out to left.
