TEMPLE, Texas –The Texas A&M-Kingsville tennis team (2-9) won a 5-4 decision to Temple College on Thursday but dropped a close decision, 5-4 to the No. 9 regionally ranked University of Texas-Permian Basin on Friday in Temple.

Against Temple, the Javelina women won three of six singles matches.

Mariaxi Herrera put on another stunning performance at No. 1 by sweeping Hailey Shanahan in two sets with the same score, 6-4. Tabata Lua won her match at No. 3 against Michelle Chemaly, 7-6 and 6-0. Ashlea Rosenbaum defeated her opponent, Marissa Rodriguez with scores of 6-3 and 6-0 at No. 5. 

In doubles, at No. 1, Herrera and her partner, Marija Dimitrovska bested Shanahan and Chemaly with a score of 8-2. At No. 2, Lua and Rosebaum defeated Schulz and her partner Katie Delgado, 8-6. In No. 3, Eleni Anastasova and Alex Olguin fell to Rodriguez and her partner, Kaila Martin with a score of 2-8.

Against Permian Basin, the Javelina women again won three of six singles matches.
Herrera showed her elite skills at No. 1 by sweeping Lisa Roslanova in two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Dimitrovska defeated Shelby Greene at No. 2 in two sets with the same score, 6-2. Tabata Lua won her match at No. 3 against Sofia Ochoa Arminana, 6-2 and 6-4.
 
In doubles, at No. 1, Herrera and her partner, Dimitrovska bested Roslanova and her partner, Baltazar with a score of 8-1. At No. 2, Lua and Rosebaum lost to Alexandra Maytubby and her partner Rebecca Stafford, 8-6.  On No. 3, Anastasova and Olguin fell by way of retirement due to injury to Shelby Green and her partner, Sarah Palacio.

Javelina tennis will travel to San Antonio on April 5th to face McMurry.
