AUSTIN, Texas – Heading into its first home match of the season on Sunday the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat to No. 35 Northeastern State in Austin on Saturday.
Kingsville will host nationally-ranked Cameron at 1 p.m. at Bishop High School.
Tabata Lua claimed the Javelinas lone point with a win at No. 3 singles. Lua won the opening set 6-1 before dropping set two 6-3. She came back to win the third-set tiebreaker 10-8.
Mariaxi Herrera also went three sets dropping a heartbreaker at No. 1 to Valeriia Efimenko. Herrera won the opening set 6-2, but fell 7-6 in set two dropping the tiebreaker 7-3. The third set went 10-4 in favor of NSU.
Marija Dimitrovska nearly went three sets dropping a 7-5 first in No. 2 singles. She could not rebound falling 6-0 in the second set.
Kingsville did not win more than three games in a doubles match.
The Javelinas are now 1-8, while Northeastern is 8-4.
