Javelinas Open LSC At West Texas, Weather Forces Change

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team travels to West Texas A&M this weekend to start Lone Star Conference action play with a 4-game series at Wilder Park.

Originally scheduled to be played over three days, the teams will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday with poor weather on the horizon for Sunday. The teams will play a 7-inning contest to open each day with 9-inning game to follow. Friday's play begins with the first game at 4:30 p.m., while Saturday's action opens at 4 p.m.

The Javelinas enter league play with a 5-4 overall record, while West Texas is 10-2 on the season and tied with Eastern New Mexico with the top record in the LSC entering conference play. TAMUK leads the all-time series 57-34, including a 3-2 record last season. The teams split a four-game series in Kingsville, The Hoggies claimed a 6-5 win in the conference tournament in Canyon en route to claiming the 2013 Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship.

Kingsville enters on a 3-game winning streak after sweeping Texas College. The Javelinas enter with the league's third-best ERA with a 2.67 mark and is hitting .279 as a team. The pitching staff has been led by a solid bullpen. In 36 innings, the Javelina relief corps has allowed six earned runs including just one in nine innings of work last week.

Dallas Ponder leads the staff with two wins, while Matt Rhodes has struck out 17 batters to lead the way. Cody Williams has not allowed an earned run in 7-2/3 innings of relief limiting hitters to a .148 mark.

Offensively, Justin Lee leads Kingsville with a .400 mark among hitters with 19 at bats, while four others are hitting .344. Derrick Walls is second with a .382 mark, while Dustin Aguilar is third at .368. Designated hitter Ryan Guedry follows at a .360 clip, while Taylor Taska is fifth at .344. Taska, who leads the LSC with three home runs, is tops on the team with 10 RBI and eight runs scored. Julian Duran was the co-Hitter of the Week in the LSC after batting .714 last week.

West Texas' ERA leads the conference at 1.69. Starting pitchers Dylan James and Ashton Sivigliano are both 2-0 with ERAs under one. Sivigliano has a 0.68 ERA and James has a 0.82 ERA and team-best 29 strikeouts. Scott Cone and Joshua Weyker also have two wins.

At the plate, Dylan Dyson is hitting .484 which is third in the Lone Star Conference. His .537 on-base percentage is fourth in the conference, while teammate Jacob Caples is second with five doubles. David Hebert is hitting .364 and is tops on the team with 11 runs batted in. Matt Redfearn is first with 11 runs scored.
