Late Surge By Hoggies Comes Up Short

Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team went on a 11-0 run late in the second half Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to overcome strong shooting by Eastern New Mexico in front of over 2,000 elementary school students as part of the "Live the Dream" promotion as the Javelinas fell 82-78.

The loss drops the Javelinas to 5-10 on the season and 0-3 in the Lone Star Conference. Eastern earned its first LSC win in three tries and is 7-7 overall.

Down 65-52 with just under eight minutes to go after a pair of Phil Henry free throws, the Javelinas scored 11 consecutive points in just over two minutes. Rashad Basey hit a pair of jumpers in the run, while Ta'Quan McDew nailed a 3-point basket.

A 3-point play by Henry with three minutes left pushed the visitors back in front 70-65.

Rafael Love twice pushed the Greyhounds back up by nine points in the final minutes before Kingsville scored the game's final four points.

Basey led the Javelinas with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting and 7-of-9 free throws. Irvin Hollinger added 14 points, while McDew added 13 points.

Henry led all players with 27 points as he was nearly perfect shooting. He was 9-of-11 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the line to lead the Greyhounds who were 26-of-49 from the field for 53.1%. Cornelius Cammock added 20 points and Rodney Blackmon had 10.

The Javelinas square off with West Texas A&M in Canyon on Saturday at 4 p.m. They host Cameron next Wednesday at 8 p.m. as part of IBC Bank Pack the House Night.
