Frisco, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville kicks off its postseason in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament against Dallas Baptist University from the Comerica Center on Thursday.
The Javelinas (13-15, 10-10 LSC) earned a berth into the postseason for the first time since the 2022-23 season as the No. 8 seed after going .500 in conference play. To kick off the bracket, the Javelinas will take on the reigning LSC tournament champion and current top-seeded Patriots (24-6, 18-2 LSC)) for the third time this season.
Neither matchup would go the way of the Javelinas, as DBU took both matchups in Kingsville and in Dallas. Texas A&M-Kingsville hopes that last week's contests were an aberration offensively as well, as it would not cross the sixty point threshold for just the second and third time respectively.
The balanced attack of the Javelinas can easily right the ship against DBU however, as four Javelinas are scoring over seven points per game at the conclusion of the regular season. Led by
Bryson Goldsmith's 10.6 points and
Allen Singleton's 9.6 points, the Javelinas will need to remain balanced if they want to see success against the Patriots.
Vital to this attack has also been the play of junior point guard
Bryce Smith, who is tenth in the conference with 3.6 assists and seventh in the conference with 1.9 steals per game. Smith, who has scored in double-figures in three of his last four games, also leads the Javelinas in rebounding with 4.6 per game.
Defensively, the Javelinas boast one of the better rim-protecting teams in the conference with 3.19 blocks per game. They are led by sophomore forward
David Oriaku, who is one of 11 players in the LSC to be averaging one-or-more blocks per game.
Tip-off for the first round of the LSC is set for 6:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaMBB on X.
