Third-Ranked Wildcats Down Javelinas On Hardcourts

BISHOP, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville tennis team dropped to 1-3 on the season Saturday falling to third-ranked Abilene Christian in Bishop. ACU is 10-3.

Mariaxi Herrera took two games in each set but fell to sixth-ranked played in Division II, Julia Mongin, 6-2, 6-2. Marija Dimitrovska was handed a 6-0, 6-2 loss by 32-ranked Micah Hermsdorf at No. 2 singles. Tabata Lua Cervantes won four games in the opening set against Laura Mongin but could not complete the first-set win falling 6-4, 6-1. Also falling in singles were Victoria Rios 6-1, 6-0, Ashton Garcia 6-2, 6-0, and Alexandra Carrillo 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Herrera and Dimitrovska fought tooth-and-nail with Julia Mongin and Reed, who are ranked fifth in the country, before falling 8-5. The duo of Rios and Cervantes fell 8-1, while Carrillo and Garcia dropped an 8-0 decision.

The Javelinas are off until next Saturday when they host Jacksonville College in matches at 9 am. and 3 p.m.
