Women Take 4th at David Noble Relays

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s track & field team took fourth place at the David Noble Relays hosted by Angelo State on Thursday.

The Javelinas picked up 66.17 points in the meet to finish behind Angelo State (165.5), South Plains College (126) and West Texas A&M (118). There were a total of 16 teams in the meet.

Freshman Amber Perry (Goliad/Goliad HS) won the 400-meter dash. After winning her heat in 56.99, she came back and won the finals in an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 56.00. It was the third fastest time in school history.

Perry also ran the opening leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that took fourth place in a time of 3:53.74. She teamed with Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS), Stephanie Garcia (Freer/Freer HS) and Kathy Trevino (Rio Grande City/Rio Grande City HS). Stafford, Garcia and Trevino each ran on the 4x100-meter relay team, along with Santia Deck (Alpharetta, GA/Milton HS), to place fourth in a time of 48.15.

The team had three scorers in the high jump. Stephanie Johns (Lubbock/Coronado HS), Amanda Haven (Calallen/Calallen HS) and Samantha Alvarez (Victoria/Memorial HS) each cleared 5-2.5. Alvarez added a fifth place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-10.75.

Freshman Chelsea Ikeda (Keller/Central HS) led the throwing contingent with a third place finish in the hammer throw. She tossed the implement 151-6, the second best throw in school history.

The Javelinas are back in action on April 14 at the Trinity Alumni Invitational.
