Women's Relay Hits the Mark

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s 4x400-meter relay team provided an early highlight to the 85th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays for the program on Friday.

The Javelinas clocked a 3:49.29 in the 1600-meter relay.  It was the fourth best time in school history and eclipsed the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard.  The team of Amber Perry (Goliad/Goliad HS), Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS), Stephanie Garcia (Freer/Freer HS) and Kathy Trevino (Rio Grande City/Rio Grande City HS) improved by seven seconds over their previous best this season.  The school record is 3:47.60 set in 1999.

The Javelina men only had three athletes competing on the day, but two had strong performances.  Tim Price (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) won his preliminary heat in the 100 meters in a time of 10.48.  He provisionally qualified for nationals and advanced to the finals on Saturday.  Catrell Butler (Pembroke Pines, FL/Flanagan HS) advanced to the finals in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49, also a provisional mark.

The Texas Relays conclude on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
