
LUBBOCK, TEXAS – After a two week layoff, the Texas A&M-Kingsville track & field teams were back in action at the Texas Tech Open on Saturday.
The Javelina women showed the most improvement in the middle sprint distances over the team’s previous meet. In the 400 meters, all four runners posted season best times. Freshman Amber Perry (Goliad/Goliad HS) led the way in a time of 57.67 while fellow freshman Kathy Trevino (Rio Grande City/Rio Grande City HS) was right behind her in 57.96. Junior Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS) ran her fastest time of the season in 1:00.16 and her fastest time ever in the 200 meters at 25.93. Another freshman, Bethani Eberhart (Lindsay/Lindsay HS) lowered her season best in the 400 meters by over two seconds to 1:03.76.
All four individuals were a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a 3:59.64 and nabbed fifth place.
Junior Samantha Alvarez (Victoria/Memorial HS) matched her season best in the high jump with a leap of 5-5 to take fourth place.
The Javelinas are back in action on Friday at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games at the Armory in New York City.
