LSC Invite Off to Good Start

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The Lone Star Conference Invitational indoor track and field meet opened on Sunday at the Texas Tech Athletic Training Center with five women’s teams and four men’s teams in action.

The meet is a prelude to next year when the LSC will officially offer an indoor track and field championship. The team results for this year are all unofficial.

The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s team is currently in fifth place with 11 points, but set up for a strong final day performance. Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS) and Amber Perry (Goliad/Goliad HS) qualified for finals in both the 200 and 400 meters. Stafford clocked times of 25.66 and 58.14 while Perry posted marks of 25.53 and 57.10. Kathy Trevino (Rio Grande City/Rio Grande City HS) joined the duo in the 400 meters with a 57.61 performance. It was the best times of the season for all three individuals.

Santia Deck (Alpharetta, GA/Milton HS) also set a personal record in the 200 meters (26.02), but did not make the finals. However, she did make the finals in the 55 meters after clocking a personal best 7.34.
Picking up the first points of the meet for the Javelina women was freshman Chelsea Ikeda (Keller/Keller Central HS) who improved nearly five feet in the weight throw. She tossed the implement 47-8 to take fourth place.

Angelo State leads the meet with 43 points and they are followed by West Texas A&M (42), Abilene Christian (32), Incarnate Word (27) and the Javelinas.
