Stafford Leads Javelina Women in New York

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – The Teas A&M-Kingsville track & field teams made their annual trip to the Lafeyette/Rider Winter Invitational at The Armory on Friday.

The Javelina women received strong performances from Aricela Alvarez (Bishop/Bishop HS), Samantha Alvarez (Victoria/Memorial HS), Amber Perry (Goliad/Goliad HS) and Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS).
Aricela Alvarez competed in the 60-meter dash, long and triple jumps. She clocked 8.51 seconds in the 60-meter dash. She leaped 17-1.25 in the long jump, a season best, and just missed her top mark in the triple jump with a mark of 35-5.

Samantha Alvarez posted her best clearance of the season in the pole vault at 10-10 and also cleared 5-3 in the high jump.

Perry and Stafford each ran the 200 and 400 meters. Perry finished the 200 in 26.49 and the 400 in 59.33. Stafford easily eclipsed her season bests in both events with a time of 25.70 in the 200 and 58.84 in the 400.

The teams are back in action on February 19-20 in Lubbock, TX for their final meet before the national championships in Mankato, MN on March 9-10.
