
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Behind the strong attack of outside hitters Lauryn Lozano (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) and Kelsey Washington (Cuero/Cuero HS), the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team defeated Lone Star Conference rival Cameron University on Thursday night, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Javelinas (3-4, 1-4) had two of their best attacking sets of the season in the first two sets. In the first one, the Hoggies pounded out 18 kills and had a .302 attack percentage. They came back in the second set with 11 kills and a .526 attack percentage.
Lozano and Washington combined for 31 of the team’s 44 kills in the match. Lozano led the team with 19 kills and a .390 attack while adding eight digs. The 19 kills were a career high. Washington added 12 kills and a .455 attack in the match. The team pounded out a .290 attack percentage for the match.
Senior Sondra Cui (Schertz/Steele HS) directed the offense with 24 assists. Fellow senior Laura Macek (Wilson, KS/Ellsworth HS) had three kills, three blocks and a .600 attack. Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) led the defense with 16 digs.
The Aggies (3-3, 2-2) had 35 kills and matched the Javs with 48 digs and three team blocks. Adrienne Lawson led their attack with 13 kills and a .333 attack while Kelle Carver added 10 kills and a .259 attack. Jenna Risoli had the only double-double of the match with 32 assists and 10 digs.
The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at home against Midwestern State at home.
