
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team led two sets to one against Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State, but were unable to close out the match as they lost in five sets 25-21, 21-25, 15-25, 25-21, 15-9 on Senior Night.
The Javelinas (15-14, 7-13) lost the first set, but came back and won the next two sets as they played extremely well. In the fourth set, the Hoggies led 20-18 after a kill by Lauryn Lozano (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS). The TexAnns (18-13, 12-7) scored seven of the next eight points in the fourth set and then scored the first four points of the fifth set.
The Javelinas finished the match with 61 kills, 76 digs and 15.0 total blocks. Stephanie Johns (Lubbock/Coronado HS) pounded out 14 kills and a .480 attack percentage to go along with nine digs and six blocks. Bethany Friesenhahn (Poth/Poth HS) had 11 kills, nine digs and a career high eight blocks. Kelsey Washington (Cuero/Cuero HS) led the team with 15 kills while Lozano added 13 kills.
On defense, Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) led the Javelinas with 22 digs. Senior Laura Macek (Wilson, KS/Ellsworth HS) recorded seven blocks. Giselle Carreon (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) had a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs while senior Sondra Cui (Schertz/Steele HS) led the team with 29 assists.
The TexAnns had 50 kills, 60 digs and 6.0 team blocks. Flynn Harrell led the team with 13 kills and 14 digs. Nikki McNorton added 12 kills and three blocks. Jessie Hartman and Danielle Barker combined for 41 assists.
The Javelinas next play on November 10 at the Lone Star Conference Tournament hosted by West Texas A&M at a time to be determined.
