Hogs Season Ends in First Round

CANYON, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team’s season came to an abrupt end on Thursday night in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament to host #13 West Texas A&M in three sets.

The Lady Buffs (31-2) controlled play throughout the match with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 win over the Javelinas (15-15).

The Javelinas struggled to get a consistent attack going and finished the night with a .096 attack percentage. They finished with 29 kills overall and Lauryn Lozano (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) led the way with eight kills. Giselle Carreon (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) dished out a team high 11 assists while Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) added 12 digs. The team did well with 7.0 blocks against the top attacking team in the conference. Senior Laura Macek (Wilson, KS/Ellsworth HS) closed her career with five blocks to finish the season with a 1.00 blocks per set figure.

The Lady Buffs posted a .253 attack percentage and pounded out 41 kills. Ashley Davis led the way with 13 kills while Sarah Martin added 10 kills. Lacy Hayes handed out 37 assists and had four service aces. Lauren Beville led the defense with 11 digs.

The Lady Buffs advance to play Tarleton State on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
