
KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – On Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg Dig Pink Night the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team made quick work of visiting Huston-Tillotson 25-8, 25-16, 25-13 in front of a crowd wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness on Tuesday night.
The Javelinas (13-12) never trailed in the match and sophomore Bethany Friesenhahn (Poth/Poth HS) proved to be nearly unstoppable on the attack. After hitting her first attack out of bounds she recorded kills on 14 of her next 15 opportunities to finish with a .812 attack percentage. She broke the previous school record of .733 that was held by Sha Tramble against Southern Arkansas on September 5, 2009.
The Javelinas finished the match with 44 kills and a .458 attack percentage. Freshman Stephanie Johns (Lubbock/Coronado HS) added 12 kills and a .526 attack percentage to the equation. Freshman Giselle Carreon (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) directed the attack for most of the night and finished with a match high 24 assists, six service aces and six digs. Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) led the team with nine digs.
The Rams (1-28) tallied only 12 kills on the night. Chantelia Washington was the team’s most effective attacker with seven kills and a .263 attack percentage. Faron Bradley led the team with a pair of blocks to go with five assists and four digs.
The Javelinas are back in action on Thursday night at Lone Star Conference rival Texas Woman’s at 7.
