
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team picked up their fifth win in the last seven matches with a sweep at Lone Star Conference rival University of the Incarnate Word 25-15, 26-24, 25-19 in the McDermott Center on Wednesday night. (

The Javelinas (6-8, 3-2) posted a .252 attack in the match with a well balanced attack. Jess Morris (Goliad/Goliad HS) and Lauryn Lozano (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) led the team with 10 kills apiece, but three others had at least five kills in the match. Amanda Yeager (Brenham/Brenham HS) and Sondra Cui (Schertz/Steele HS) combined for 38 assists. Cui also added a team high four service aces.
In the first set, the Javelinas jumped out to a 6-1 lead before the Cardinals (4-6, 2-3) pulled to within 11-10. The Hoggies quickly went on a 7-1 run to take control of the match. Cui served up five straight points late in the set and then set up Casey Chancellor (Bellville/Bellville HS) for the final point of the set.
The Javelinas used the momentum of the first set win to score the first six points of the second set and take a 15-4 lead before Incarnate Word stormed back. The Cards scored 18 of the next 25 points to tie the score at 22-22. After each team scored a point, Stephanie Bonura served up an ace for the Cardinals to take a 24-23 lead. The Javs scored the next three points to win the match as Lozano pounded out two kills and Chancellor finished off the set with another kill from Cui.
The third set was closely contested until the Javelinas put the match away late in the set. With the score 20-18 the Hoggies scored four straight points to earn match point and then Morris put away the final point with her 10th kill of the match.
Morris posted a .269 attack and four blocks for the Javelinas, while Chancellor had six kills and a .333 attack and Amanda Waclawczyk (Poth/Poth HS) had eight kills, seven digs and a .333 attack. Lozano posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs while Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) led all players with 25 digs.
The Cardinals were led on the attack by Anna Herr with seven kills and a .538 attack percentage. Overall, the team had 36 kills and a .153 attack. Spencer Ladd led the team with 18 digs.
The Javelinas are back in action on Friday night at home against Texas A&M-International at 7 p.m. on Girl Scout Appreciation Night. All Girl Scouts will get in free to the match, have a pizza party and get to meet the team.
