
SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s track and field team got off to a good start at the 2010 Lone Star Conference Championship Meet hosted by Angelo State University on Saturday. (

The Javelinas tallied 31 points during the first day of competition after totaling only 19 points a year ago. The team fared well in the pole vault as four members posted scoring marks. Freshman Samantha Alvarez (Victoria/Memorial HS) led the way as she cleared 10-10.25 to take home second place honors. Following right behind her was freshman Amy Rabalais (Sandia/George West HS) in third with a height of 10-4.25. Tiffany Masters (Jourdanton/Pleasanton HS) and Elvia Lopez (Rio Grande City/Rio Grande City HS) tied for fifth with a height of 8-10.75.
Junior thrower Katie Dugie (Yorktown/Yorktown HS) placed in both the hammer throw and shot put. She nabbed eighth place in the hammer with a toss of 119-11. She grabbed the bronze medal in the shot put with a heave of 42-5.5.

Freshman Samone Lindsey (Indianapolis, IN/Elkins HS) set a personal record in the triple with a leap of 36-2 to grab sixth place honors.
Senior Rhonida Carter (Houston/Nimitz HS) advanced to the finals on Sunday in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles. In the 100 hurdles she clocked a personal record time of 14.56 missing NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying by .01.
