WACO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field team competed with the elements all day long at the Michael Johnson Classic hosted by Baylor University on Saturday at the Hart-Patterson Track Complex. The meet was suspended with four scheduled events remaining.
The top finisher on the women’s side was senior Erica Alvarado (Falfurrias/Falfurrias HS) in the 5,000 meters. She grabbed sixth place in a time of 18:22.39 finishing ahead of all of her Lone Star Conference rivals and just six second slower than her personal best.
The women had a number of individuals improve upon their best marks of the season. Senior Rhonida Carter (Houston/Nimitz HS) bettered her time in the 400 hurdles clocking a 1:04.16 to place eighth. Freshman Amy Rabalais (Sandia/George West HS) improved upon her best in the javelin with a toss of 108-7. Sophomore Jessica Martinez (Zapata/Zapata HS) continued her overall improvement in the distance events this year with a 5:04.43 in the 1,500 meters.
The Javelinas are back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA.
