Women's Track Takes Silver Medal

  SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s track and field team took second place at the 2010 Angelo State David Noble Relays on Saturday.

The Javelinas were led by senior Erica Alvarado (Falfurrias/Falfurrias HS) who won the 800 meters and was second in the 1500 meters. She set a personal record in the 800 crossing the tape in a time of 2:19.24 and ran a season best time of 4:54.01 in the 1500 meters.

Senior Rhonida Carter (Houston/Nimitz HS) placed in both hurdle events and was a member of both relay teams. She took fourth place in both the 100 and 400 hurdles running a season best time in the 100-meter hurdles, 14.82 and clocking a 1:04.63 in the 400-meter hurdles. She ran the second leg on the second place finishing 4x100-meter relay team that finished in 48.22. She also ran the second leg on the fourth place 4x400-meter relay team that finished in 4:00.91. Tuveesha Jones (Killeen/Ellison HS) and Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS) teamed with Carter in both relays. Samone Lindsey (Indianapolis, IN/Elkin HS) ran on the 4x100 team while Diana Zarate (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/San Patricio HS) ran a leg on the 4x400 team.

Zarate also ran her best time of the year in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.73 to take third place. Lindsey took third place in the long jump with a leap of 17-11.5.

Stafford, Jessica Martinez (Zapata/Zapata HS) and Samantha Alvarez (Victoria/Memorial HS) each earn a second place during the meet. Stafford ran a time of 25.39 in the 200 meters, Martinez clocked a 19:06.30 in the 5,000 meters while Alvarez cleared 5-1 in the high jump. Alvarez also finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-11.75.

In the throwing events, Katie Dugie (Yorktown/Yorktown HS) led the way. She won the javelin with a throw of 121-5 and was fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 121-4. She also finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-7.5.

The Javelinas are back in action on April 17th at the Michael Johnson Classic in Waco, Texas.
