WACO, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Kingsville head football coach Bo Atterberry was named the NCAA Division II AFCA Region 4 Coach of the Year on Monday. The AFCA recognizes five regional Coach of the Year winners in each of the Association’s five divisions: Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and NAIA. The winners are selected by Active members of the Association who vote for coaches in their respective regions and divisions.
Atterberry guided the Javelinas to a 10-2 mark this year. It was the first 10-win season for the program since 2003 and first 10-win regular season since 1989. The team was ranked in the top 10 nationally over the final 11 weeks of the season and earned a first round bye in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. He is the third head coach in school history to earn the award joining Gil Steinke, two times, and Ron Harms, five times.
The 2010 Regional Coach of the Year winners will be recognized at the AFCA Coach of the Year Dinner at the 2011 AFCA Convention in Dallas, Texas. The dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, January 11.
