Women's Track Opens Season in Houston

HOUSTON, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s track and field team took a small contingent of athletes to this weekend’s University of Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Senior Erica Alvarado (Falfurrias/Falfurrias HS) led the team with a fifth place finish in the 5,000 meters as she clocked a 19:55.27. Freshman Brittany Stafford (Victoria/Memorial HS) ran both the 60 meters and 200 meters finishing in 8.23 and 26.95, respectively. Senior Rhonida Carter (Houston/Nimitz HS) crossed the tape in 1:00.29 in the 400-meter dash.

In the field events, freshman Samantha Alvarez (Victoria/Memorial HS) cleared 5-3 in high jump and junior Katie Dugie (Yorktown/Yorktown HS) tossed the shot put 39-0.25.

The Javelinas are back in action next Saturday at the University of Houston All-Comers Meet.
