Jamar Goodwin was named the Lone Star Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week Monday after tallying three blocks and three steals in Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s (4-1) two victories last week.
In the 82-65 victory over Ouachita Baptist University, Goodwin finished 5-of-10 with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block. One day later, the Javelinas defeated the ThunderWolves in overtime, 72-69. Colorado State University-Pueblo upset No. 1 Tarleton State University the day before falling to the Hogs. In the game, Goodwin recorded 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in the victory. For the week, the senior averaged 12.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals and went 5-of-10 from three-point range.
The weekly nod is the first of Goodwin’s Javelina career. This season, the Dallas native is averaging 8.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 steal and has swatted away four shots.
