For the women’s tennis program, Ruiz dropped the first set at 7-6 to Kageyama before claiming the second set at 6-3. The San Antonio native battled back from a 6-2 deficit in the super tiebreaker set and eventually knotted the score at 8-8 before coming away with the win at 10-8.

The streak for Ruiz in the dual season dates back to March 13, 2018, when she bested Linying Xiao from MSU Denver in three sets. The win over Kageyama on Sunday marks the second Division-I opponent she has bested in the run as she also downed Eli Arnaudova from New Mexico State in straight sets back on March 21, 2018.

Throughout the streak, Ruiz has only had four matches go to three sets, with the first four wins in 2019 coming in straight sets before the matchup to Kageyama went to a third.
