Kingsville - Legendary Javelina Football player Donald Washington is set to be inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame, Texas A&M-Kingsville announced on Wednesday.

Washington will join seven other inductees for the Javelina Hall of Fame class of 2026, with each inductee being announced on subsequent Wednesdays. The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Oct. 2 inside the Student Union Building ballroom.

One of the greatest defensive backs in the storied history of Javelina Football, Washington played an integral part of one of the greatest teams in program history during the 1979 season. Washington and the Javelinas would put together a 12-1 record en route to the program's seventh national championship.Washington put together a great season as well, earning second-team all-conference honors.

Washington's 1980 season would be his breakout year however, as he would receive first team all-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association, first-team all-district honors and all-Texas sports first-team honors as well. 

Washington currently stands with the fifth most interceptions all-time in program history with 17. After his playing days with the Javelinas, Washington would be drafted by the Houston Oilers with the 193rd overall pick in the 1981 NFL draft. Washington would only spend two years in the NFL with the Oilers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being signed to the USFL by the Houstin Gamblers.
