Kingsville - Jack Turner and Yosiris Cordoba headline the annual Student Athlete Awards for the 2025-26 athletic season, Texas A&M-Kingsville announced on Wednesday.
Each year, the Javelina Athletic Department nominates individual student athletes who exude excellence on and off the field to receive these distinctions, highlighted by The Gil E Steinke award. This award is presented to the top male and female athlete in the Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic department following the conclusion of the athletic year.Â
Turner joined the Javelinas by way of Louisiana Tech for the 2025 football season and put together an incredible season with the Javelinas. Turner became the first Javelina quarterback to throw for over 3,000 yards while also setting the single-season program record in total yards, completions and completion percentage. Turner was a member of the 2025 All-Academic team in the LSC as well.
Cordoba put together a historic season for the Javelinas during the 2026 outdoor track & field season. The Turbo, Colombia, native won the national championship at the 2026 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championship in the women's discus event with a 53.14m toss. Cordoba was also a first-team All-American, a first-team all-conference selection and was a Lone Star Conference champion in the discus event as well.

Scholar Athlete Award: Guadelupe Tocci & Django Segovia
The Scholar-Athlete award is given to the male and female student-athletes compiling the highest GPA during their educational career at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Dick Hitchens Award: Nick Reyes
The Dick Hitchens Award is presented annually in memory of the attorney from Kingsville and goes to a student-athlete majoring in history or political science.
The Fred McIntire Award: Colby Hesseltine
The Fred McIntire award is given to a member of the Javelina football program who has at least a 2.50 GPA, preferably majoring in engineering or mathematics, and has been in college at least two full semesters
The Athlete Career Award: Nick ReyesÂ
The Athlete/Career award was established by Dr. Stewart Cooper, long-time chair of the University's health and kinesiology department, and is given to a student-athlete who has lettered in at least one sport, has been an intramural participant and who is planning a career in coaching.
The Football Achievement Award: Jeremiah Conaway
The Football Achievement Award was established by Dr. Frank Dotterweich in memory of his wife, June. The selected student-athlete must have at least a 2.50 GPA, be a letter winner, be achieving in school and community service and have completed at least two full semesters of college work.
The June Dotterwich Award: Alaunah Almaraz
The June Dotterweich Award was established by Dr. Frank Dotterweich in memory of his wife, June, and the recipient is a female student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom and competition.
The Johnny Marroquin Award: Seven Sanchez
The Johnny Marroquin award was established by Mary Marroquin in honor of her husband, Johnny, and is given to a student-athlete who will be teaching and coaching after graduation
The Fred and Joan Nuesch Award: Mark Paz
The Fred & Joan Nuesch award is given to a student worker from the Javelina Athletic Communications, preferably majoring in journalism or mass communications, with plans to become a sports journalist. It was established at the time of
Fred Nuesch's retirement as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information after 35 years in the position
