Ed Turner named to Javelina Hall of Fame

Kingsville - Former Javelina Men's Basketball great Ed Turner is set to be inducted into the Texas A&M-Kingsville Athletics Hall of Fame the department announced on Wednesday.

Turner will join seven other inductees for the Javelina Hall of Fame class of 2026, with each inductee being announced on subsequent Wednesdays. The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Oct. 2 inside the Student Union Building ballroom.

An all-time great player for the Javelinas in the late 70s, Turner was a three-time NAIA All-American selection and a four-time Lone Star Conference all-conference selections during his time with the Javelinas.Turner was also named the LSC Most Valuable Player twice during his time with the Javelinas, one of which came during the 1979-1980 season where Turner was named a first-team all-American.

Perhaps the greatest rebounder in Javelina Basketball history, Turner currently stands as the high mark with 934 career total rebounds as well as ranking first in rebounds per game (12.8). Turner remarkably has three of the best rebounding seasons in program history, having the second (13.8), fifth (12.8) and sixth (11.8) most rebounds per game in a single season. He also holds the record for most rebounds in a single season (346)/

Turner was not just a great rebounder for the Javelinas however, Turner is second all-time scoring 22.8 points per game for his career and is fourth all-time in program history with 1,668 points scored across his career. Turner also boasts the third best scoring season in program history, scoring 27.3 points per game. To top it off, Turner also holds the third most assists in program history with 433.

After his playing days with the Javelinas, Turner was selected 45th overall in the 1981 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. Turner did not appear in an NBA game however.
