Emporia, KS - The final athletic event of the 2025-26 athletic year saw the the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's and men's track and field teams produce a National Champion, a fifth-place individual finish, and 11 total All-Americans across three days of competition at the 2026 NCAA D2 Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
With 14 team points, the women's squad finished tied for 18th in the nation. That is the sixth highest that the team has ever finished at the National Meet in the history of Javelina track and field. It is the second highest since 2004
The second day of the meet saw junior thrower
Yosiris Cordoba stand alone atop the podium with a 53.14m throw, becoming the first discus thrower in program history to win the National Championship. Amazingly, she fouled her first two throws, recording no mark and putting her spot in the event finals in jeopardy. With no more margin for error, the first-year Javelina came up huge, tossing a 50.82m throw, good for fourth and a trip to the finals (top nine). Once there, she wasted no time exploding for a 53.14m throw, which would be her best, and the best of the competition. Kingsville has now produced a National Champion thrower in back-to-back years, the second time that feat has been accomplished in program history.
On Saturday, sophomore sprinter
Oneika Brissett added a pair of new All-American Honors to her resume, bringing her career total to six. Running a 53.24, she finished fifth in the 400m finals, earning the first individual outdoor First Team All-American award to her record. The night before, she was joined by senior
Jazmine Miller, and sophomores
Sakara Wade and
Valentina Torres, combining to run a 3:41.69, the 12th-fastest of the meet, earning each of the four a spot on the All-American Second Team. For Torres and Miller, it marks the first All-American honors of their career. It brings Brissett's total to a staggering six, three First Team, three Second Team (three indoor, three outdoor).
Freshman
Christopher Gonzalez, who entered the weekend as one of just two freshman men in the nation to have qualified for Nationals in three different events, competed in all three on Thursday. Battling tough conditions and a heavy work load, Gonzalez finished as an All-American Honorable Mention in both the long jump and the 400m hurdles, and joined junior
Malachi Barendilla, freshman
Ausencio Martinez, and junior
DaTavus Pope to place 10th and produced a Second Team All-American performance in the men's 4x400m relay.
In Thursday's women's pole vault competition, junior
Kenzie Kurdys cleared a pair of bars (3.65m, 3.80m), and finished as Second Team All-American. In her first year with the Javelinas, she earned the LSC's gold medal in the event, a spot on the All-LSC Academic Team, and earned Second Team All-American honors, in both the indoor and the outdoor season.
In the men's side of the pole vault on Saturday, senior
Django Segovia and freshman
Trevor Upton each competed. Upton, in his first nationals, cleared 4.86m and 5.01m, tying him for 14th and earning him a spot on the All-American Second Team. Competing in the last meet of his career, Segovia cleared 4.86m and finished out his stellar time with the hogs with All-American Honorable Mention honors.
Junior
Karina Alvarez, making her National-Meet debut, threw 14.00m in the women's shot put, finishing her in 19th and earning her an All-American Honorable Mention honor.
