Yosiris Cordoba on podium after 2026 National Championship finish in women's discus

Women's Track and Field

Nationals Day Two Recap: Cordoba wins National Title, relay takes 12th

Emporia, KS - Junior thrower Yosiris Cordoba stood alone atop the podium in the women's discus on day two of the 2026 NCAA D2 Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, bringing home an individual National Title with a throw of 53.14m, while the women's 4x400m relay team placed twelfth, earning Second Team All-American honors.

Amazingly, Cordoba fouled her first two throws, recording no mark and putting her spot in the event finals in jeopardy. With no more margin for error, the first-year Javelina came up huge, tossing a 50.82m throw, good for fourth and a trip to the finals (top nine). Once there, she wasted no time exploding for a 53.14m throw, which would be her best, and the best of the competition. She becomes the first women's discus National Champion in program history.

Later in the day, in Friday's final event, the women's 4x400m relay team of senior Jazmine Miller, and sophomores Sakara Wade, Valentina Torres, and Oneika Brissett, combined to run a 3:41.69, the 12th-fastest of the meet, earning each of the four a spot on the All-American Second Team.

Up Next:

On Saturday, the final day of the three-day Championships, four Javelinas will be competing, one on the track and three in the field.

Karina Alvarez will throw in the first Nationals of her career in the shot put at 12:30 p.m.. Not long after, Django Segovia and Trevor Upton will jump in the pole vault at 2:00 p.m.. Oneika Brissett will chase the second First Team All-American performance in the 400m of her year, after placing sixth in the nation at the National meet during the indoor season.
