Kingsville - On the first day of competition at the 2026 NCAA D2 Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, six Texas A&M-Kingsville javelinas competed in five events, producing five Second Team All-Americans, a pair of All-American Honorable Mention performances, and sophomore Onieka Brissett earned a spot in the women's 400m finals.
Brissett earned a spot on an All-American Team in two different events (First - 400m, Second - 200m) during this year's Indoor season. After finishing with the third-best time among racers in today's 400m prelims, she has booked her ticket to the event's finals, which will be run at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. She will have a shot at finishing as an All-American in the 4x400m relay as well. She will joining
Jazmine Miller,
Sakara Wade, and
Valentina Torres at 8:10 p.m. on Friday in the hopes of making another event finals.
Freshman
Christopher Gonzalez, who entered the weekend as one of just two freshman men in the nation to have qualified for Nationals in three different events, competed in all three today. Battling tough conditions and a heavy work load, Gonzalez finished as an All-American Honorable Mention in both the long jump and the 400m hurdles, and joined
Malachi Barendilla,
Ausencio Martinez, and
DaTavus Pope to place 10th and produced a Second Team All-American performance in the men's 4x400m relay.Â
Kenzie Kurdys cleared a pair of bars (3.65m, 3.80m), and finished as Second Team All-American in the women's pole vault. In her first year with the Javelinas, she earned the LSC's gold medal in the event, a spot on the All-LSC Academic Team, and on the All-America Second Team, in both the indoor and the outdoor season.

On Friday, in addition to the above-mentioned 4x400m relay,
Yosiris Cordoba will take center stage, as the top-seed in the nation will look to bring home hardware in the women's discus (4:30 p.m.).
