Lubbock, TX – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team dropped a tough road match to Lubbock Christian 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center, falling to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
Lubbock Christian controlled the match from the start, sweeping all three doubles courts to take the early 1-0 lead. The No. 12-ranked pair of Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donkor put up a fight against the No. 4-ranked duo of Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric, but the Chaparrals proved too strong on the day as they swept the doubles point and carried their momentum into singles.
The Javelinas found their footing in a couple of key battles in singles play. Andrea Landaeta delivered the lone Kingsville point with a gutsy straight set victory at No. 3, keeping her strong late-season form going. Andersson Gomez pushed her match to a third set at No. 4, battling deep into a super tiebreak before the Chaparrals pulled it out.
Kingsville falls to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play and will look to bounce back Friday in Odessa against UT Permian Basin at noon in the final match of the regular season.
