BATON ROUGE, La. – The Javelinas closed out the LSU Beach Battle on the Bayou with a split day at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on Saturday, falling to Louisiana State University before bouncing back with a dominant 5-0 sweep of Nicholls State to close out the regular season.
Against LSU, the Javelinas competed hard against one of the premier Division I programs in the country, but couldn't find enough across the lineup. Kate Wozniak and Elizabeth Williams at pair four pushed the Tigers to a tight 19-21, 21-23 finish. Rylan Pollard and Liana Huesca battled hard at pair one, taking the match to a third set before falling 12-15 in the decider in the final match.
The Javelinas didn't let it linger. Against Nicholls State, TAMUK came out sharp and in control from the opening point. Wozniak and Williams set the tone at pair four, winning 21-11, 21-17, and Clara Presmanes-Garate and Presley Gardner followed at pair five, gutting out a tight first set before closing it out 26-24, 21-9. Pollard and Huesca were dominant at pair one, cruising to a 21-10, 21-7 victory, and Laura Betsa and Kalani Vasquez took care of business at pair two, winning 21-18, 21-14. Emma Daugherty and Kastyn Hoffman closed out the regular season in style at pair three, winning 21-13, 21-14 to complete the sweep.
The Javelinas close out the regular season at 20-7 and now set their sights on Gulf Shores, Alabama for the AVCA Small College Beach Championships.
