BATON ROUGE, La. – The Javelinas opened the LSU Beach Battle on the Bayou with a split day at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on Friday, rolling past Spring Hill College 5-0 before dropping a tough 2-3 decision to New Orleans to close out the afternoon.
Against Spring Hill, Elizabeth Williams and Kate Wozniak got things started at pair four, cruising to a 21-9, 21-18 victory to set the tone early. Clara Presmanes-Garate and Presley Gardner followed at pair five, closing out a tight first set before pulling away 22-20, 21-14. Kastyn Hoffman and Emma Daugherty handled pair three with ease, winning 21-14, 21-18, and Rylan Pollard and Liana Huesca took care of business at pair one, winning 21-16, 21-14. Laura Betsa and Kalani Vasquez closed out the sweep at pair two, dropping the first set before grinding through a three-setter and closing it out 15-11 to complete the 5-0 victory.
Against New Orleans, Williams and Wozniak set the tone again at pair four, winning 21-17, 21-16, and Presmanes-Garate and Gardner kept the pressure on at pair five before falling 19-21, 14-21 to leave things even. Hoffman and Daugherty delivered at pair three, grinding out a three-set victory 21-15, 16-21, 15-12 to give Kingsville the edge. Vasquez and Betsa dropped a hard-fought three-setter at pair two, leaving it all on the line for Pollard and Huesca at pair one. The duo battled through to the final match of the day but fell in three sets as New Orleans secured the 3-2 victory.
The Javelinas move to 19-6 on the season and return to the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on Saturday for the biggest matchup of the year, facing Louisiana State University at 10:30 a.m. before closing out the tournament against Nicholls at 2:15 p.m.
