CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Javelinas opened the Austin Peay Beach Volleyball Classic with a split day, dropping a tough one to Central Arkansas before bouncing back with a dominant 4-1 win over the host Governors to close out the afternoon.
Against Central Arkansas, Kalani Vasquez and Laura Betsa set the tone early at pair two, winning 21-16, 21-18, and Emma Daugherty and Kastyn Hoffman delivered one of the matches of the day at pair three, battling through a three-set grind to earn a hard-fought 16-14 victory in the decider. Rylan Pollard and Liana Huesca dropped a tough three-setter at pair one, and Elizabeth Williams and Kate Wozniak fell in straight sets at pair four. Kamryn Briggs and Clara Presmanes-Garate couldn't find enough in the third set at pair five, and Central Arkansas took it 3-2.
The Javelinas responded in a big way against Austin Peay. Vasquez and Betsa were dominant again at pair two, winning 21-16, 21-8, and Daugherty and Hoffman continued their strong day at pair three, taking care of business 21-15, 21-18. Williams and Wozniak gutted out a three-set win at pair four, rallying to close out 15-11 in the decider. Briggs and Presmanes-Garate were efficient at pair five, winning 21-12, 21-17. Pollard and Huesca dropped pair one, but the Javelinas had more than enough elsewhere, closing out the day with a 4-1 victory.
The Javelinas return to the Atkins Family Beach Volleyball Facility on Saturday to close out the Austin Peay Beach Volleyball Classic, facing McKendree at 8:00 a.m. before wrapping up against Tennessee Tech at 10:00 a.m.
