Kingsville - The Texas A&M University - Kingsville Women's Golf team heads to Rockwall, Texas, to compete in the Lone Star Conference Championship at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club. The team just completed their regular season play with a 16th-place finish in the Women's Palm Valley Classic.
From Monday, April 13, to Wednesday, April 15, the LSC Championship follows a three-day format where the entire field competes in a 54-hole Stroke Play tournament over a two-day period, followed by Match Play in the Semifinals and the Finals. 36-holes will be played on day one, with the final 18 being played on day two. Then on the final day, the top-four teams will advance to medal match rounds with semifinals in the morning and the final in the afternoon.
The Javelinas are heading into the tournament playing some of the best team golf they've played all year. The team is averaging 305 strokes over their last five rounds, and that's nearly eight strokes better than their total season average. Among those who have been on a roll is senior
Mia Scrimgeour, who's been averaging 76.6 strokes the last five rounds.
"And being on such a supportive team where everyone wants everyone to do really well all the time, it's easy to want to do better not only for yourself, but for every other girl that's also fighting out there." Said Scrimgeour.
"Like I love all of them and we're all best friends. If I do well, then they're going to do well too. And we're going to win as a team. And I think that's kind of the thing that I have been wanting to do all year, and I haven't quite been able to get there yet. So I was like, I cannot finish my college career on this. And so I've got to be fighting that extra bit harder, being like, I am going to finish on a high for myself, personally, but also so that they can have the year that they want."
Mekdes Rozas and
Jamie Miller have seen their own fair share of highlights as of late. Rozas recently hit her career low of two-under par (69) in Florida at the Emerald Coast Collegiate, where Miller shot one of her best rounds of the season, going just three-over par (74).
Zoe Dean and
Viviana Farias are looking to get back on track. After having a few down rounds, the young duo is hoping to come out near the top as they have six top-10 finishes between the two this season. Both Dean and Farias led the team in scoring average this season, tied at a 77.4 scoring average.
"I'm definitely dialing in on my wedges and putting because this last tournament kind of pointed out our weaknesses, and like what we needed to work on going into conference." Said Dean. "And so I think all of us are taking what we did kind of like not as good in the last tournament and improving on that for conference."
Competing in the tournament hosted by the Lone Star Conference are Dallas Baptist, Western New Mexico, Midwestern State, St. Mary's, Cameron, TAMIU, TAMUK, Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Angelo State, UT-Dallas, UTPB, and UT-Tyler.
Tee-times are set for 8:30 am all three days of the tournament. For more updates and news, follow the team on Instagram or X at JavelinaWGolf.
