San Antonio, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling to Hawaii Pacific University at the neutral-site matchup in San Antonio. The Sharks, who enter 2026 carrying the momentum of an NCAA Division II postseason appearance a year ago, proved to be a tough test for the Javelinas as TAMUK drops to 4-1 on the season.
Hawaii Pacific controlled the doubles point early and carried that momentum into singles play, where the Sharks took five of six matches to secure the victory. The lone bright spot for Kingsville came from Annika Andersson Gomez, who battled back to defeat Annika Harkovirta in a closely contested three-set match, winning the deciding tiebreak 10-8.
The Javelinas will look to bounce back quickly, as they return to action tomorrow in San Angelo against the University of Central Oklahoma at 12:00 p.m.
