Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's track and field teams are sending their eight qualified athletes to the 2026 NCAA D2 Indoor National Championships in Virginia Beach, VA this weekend.
The eight athletes, five men and three women, will compete in six events across the weekend. Events will take place across two days, with day one consisting primarily of prelims.
On Friday,
DaTavus Pope will run the men's 60m prelim, and
Oneika Brissett will run the prelims for both the women's 400m and 200m. The day's only finals will come from
Madison Ramos' competition in the women's high jump, where she will attempt to recreate (or top) last year's record-setting leap at the National meet that earned her First Team All-American.
Saturday will be all finals for the Hogs, with the day starting in the pole-vault pit, where
Kenzie Kurdys will compete in the women's pole vault, looking to cap her first season in the blue and gold on the podium. Following that, Pope will attempt to do the same at the men's 60m finals, should he have qualified the previous day. Then Brissett, if she qualified, will have two races, the 400m followed by the 200m, within 45 minutes of each other, as she seeks the first individual All-American honor of her career.
The weekend will finish with the men's record-setting 4x400m relay crew of
Joseph Mouaha,
Tony Benitez,
Darius Bouakel,
Michael Samihamba. Though they have just one race together under their belts, it was enough for the squad to qualify for nationals and win the LSC Championship's gold medal. Now, they will be looking to close out Benitez and Samihamba's indoor careers on the podium.
