T&F qualifies 13 for Outdoor National Championships

Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's and men's track and field teams qualified 13 athletes (seven women, six men) for the 2026 NCAA D2 Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, setting them up to have 10 different event entries across three days of competition next weekend (May 21-23) in Emporia, KS.

The Javelinas will hope to put the finishing touches on another record-breaking season in Kansas. Last year, when the Outdoor National Championship was held in Pueblo, CO, the TAMUK men's team put together its highest finish since 2019.

Yosiris Cordoba | Jr. | Women's Discus | May 22, 4:30 p.m.

Though she is already a NJCAA All-American, Cordoba will look to add a D2 All-American award to her collection for the first time, and close out a historic throwing season on top. She will enter the National Championship with the best discus throw in the nation, which she posted at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships, winning her gold in the women's discus.

Women's 4x400m Relay | Jazmine Miller, Sakara Wade, Valentina Torres, Oneika Brissett | Prelims - May 22, 8:10 p.m. (Finals - May 23, 7:30 p.m.)

The squad combined to post an almost-unbelievable PB at the LSC Championship on Saturday. They ran a 3:37.95, which is not only the second-fastest time in program history, but also punched their ticket to Nationals.

Oneika Brissett | So. | Women's 400m | Prelims - May 21, 5:55 p.m. (Finals - May 23, 4:45 p.m.)

Her best time in the event came just last week at the LSC Championship in Canyon, where she ran a 53.10, breaking the school record in the event by more than half of a second.

Men's 4x100m Relay | Christopher Gonzalez | Ausencio Martinez | Malachi Barendilla | DaTavus Pope | Prelims - May 21, 4:50 p.m. (Finals - May 23, 3:30 p.m.)

The crew's best time in the event, 39.83, was also the seventh-fastest time run in the event in school history, winning the team silver in the event at last weekend's LSC Championship.

Christopher Gonzalez | Fr. | Men's 400m Hurdles, Long Jump | Prelims - May 21, 7:40 p.m. (Finals - May 23, 5:40 p.m.),  May 21, 2:30 p.m.

Gonzalez has had a sensational freshman season up to this point and, in addition to running the first leg of the above 4x100m relay, will also be competing as an individual in the 400m hurdles and the long jump. Those were three of the four events, in addition to the 4x400m relay, that he brought home medals in at the LSC Championship last weekend in Canyon.

His best time in the 400m hurdles came just under a month ago at the Tom Tellez Invitational, where he ran a 51.58, the sixth-fastest time run in the event in school history. 7.51m at this year's Cactus Cup.

Trevor Upton | R-Fr. | Men's Pole Vault | May 23, 2:00 p.m.

Upton will be making the first trip of his career to the National Championships, where he will compete in the pole vault. His clearance of a bar set at 5.25m at the UTSA Invitational, the first competition of the outdoor season, is his best of the year, and the fourth-best in program history.

Django Segovia | Sr. | Men's Pole Vault | May 23, 2:00 p.m.

Segovia will join Upton in the pole vault at the National meet. Already an All-American during the indoor season, the graduating senior will look to close out his collegiate career on top with an equivalent award for the outdoor season.

His best vault of the year came at the Texas Invitational, where he cleared a bar set at 5.15m, which moved him up to the fifth spot on the program's all-time list.

Kenzie Kurdys | Jr. | Women's Pole Vault | May 21, 3:00 p.m.

Kurdys will be headed back to Nationals after finishing the indoor season, her first as a Javelina, as a Second Team All-American in the pole vault. Now, she will compete in the first Outdoor National Championship of her career in the blue and gold.

The best jump of her season came just a few weeks ago, when she cleared a bar set at 3.95m at the J Fred Duckett Rice Twilight meet, just .25 inches off of the school record (she already holds the program's indoor pole vault record).

Karina Alvarez | Jr. | Women's Shot Put | May 23, 12:30 p.m.

Alvarez has the opportunity to finish her junior season as a first-time All-American after qualifying in the women's shot put. Her 14.68m throw in the event at this year's Cactus Cup is her best of the season, and the second-best in school history. It is also just 4.5 inches off of the program's all-time best throw.
