Kingsville - After excellent performances at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Classic, sophomore sprinter Oneika Brisset and freshman sprinter
Ausencio Martinez earned the Lone Star Conference's women's and men's (respectively) Track Athlete of the Week awards.
The award is the second of Brissett's career, both of which she won this season. She put together a second straight historic weekend in Houston on Saturday, running a 54.61 in the 400m, which is the second-fastest time in school and the new ninth-best time in the nation in D2 so far this year. Her 200m time of 24.25 is the new third best time in school history and the 15th-fastest in the nation this season. She becomes the first Javelina to win two Indoor Track AoTW awards in the same season since Deana Richardson in 2017.
Martinez earned the first such award of his career, becoming the first solo Javelina of the year to win the award, after the men's 4x400m relay brought it home earlier this season. His 21.78 200m time won the event and is a new top-100 time in the nation this season.
Kingsville's full squads will be back in action this Friday in the Yeoman Fieldhouse as they compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston.
