Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville football will look to get back in the win column in its final home game of the 2026 season against Sul Ross State Saturday from Javelina Stadium.
After beginning conference play with a perfect 4-0 record and sitting atop the conference, the Javelinas have dropped their last three LSC games sliding down to fourth place in the LSC standings. They now take on a Lobo team who has dropped their last four contests after earning their first conference win since the 2024 season against Eastern New Mexico earlier this year.
Saturday's contest will serve as senior night for the Javelinas, as Texas A&M-Kingsville football will honor 19 seniors before kickoff at 7:00.
In order for the Javelinas to get back in the win column, they will need to get wide receiver
Christian Kretz going again. The senior from Temecula, California, has posted effective performances over the last two weeks with 12 catches for 116 yards. It has however been a drop off from his typical production, as Kretz averaged 153 yards and had ten touchdowns over his previous seven games.
The rushing attack for the Javelinas could also be a key factor to get back in the win column. Sul Ross State gives up on average 280.9 rushing yards per game this season. The Javelinas have had good production from both
Edward Chumley and
Levi Fontenot, who both have eclipsed 450 yards rushing this season. Chumley in particular has been solid in his return from injury, rushing for 205 yards and a touchdown over the last two games.
Defensively the Javelinas will need to put pressure on Sul Ross quarterback Will Howell, who sits third in the LSC with 2,443 passing yards and passing touchdowns with 20. Howell has been under pressure all year long, being sacked the second most times in the conference at 28 while the Javelinas have the most sacks in the LSC with 25.
Quick Hitters
- Kretz is set to hold the triple-crown in single-season receiving records for Javelina Football, as he is one catch away from breaking King Phillip's record of 68 receptions set last year and five touchdowns away from breaking Glenn Stark's record of 14 set in 1976.
- The Javelinas have registered at least one sack in 20 straight games dating back to the 2025 season.
-
Kenhide Atunrase had his best game of the season last week, raking in four receptions for 52 yards.
King Johnson also caught his first career touchdown in the game too.
-
Darrius Pamplin snagged his first interception of the season last week, bring the Javelinas' total to 11 on the season
-
Matthew Quick has been on a heater as of late, totaling three TFL's and a sack over the last two weeks.
Kickoff for Saturday's contest is set for 7:00 pm from Javelina Stadium. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaFB on X.
