Javelinas drop homecoming matchup to Midwestern State

Box Score Kingsville - Another slow start from Texas A&M-Kingsville doomed its chances against Midwestern State as they fell, 37-14, Saturday from Javelina Stadium.

The Javelinas (4-5, 4-3 LSC) allowed four touchdowns and a safety while mustering just under 140 yards of offense in the first half against the Mustangs (7-2, 6-1 LSC). A costly turnover on the Javelina's second drive set up the Mustangs in Javelina territory in the first quarter, controlling the game and never relinquishing their lead from the Javelinas.

After scoring 30 points in the first half, MSU was able to keep the Hogs offense off the field for just long enough to prevent them from mounting a comeback. The Javelinas did score 14 points, all in the second half, but it would not nearly be enough to get back in the game as they fell for the fourth straight time on homecoming.

There was a silver lining for the Javelinas in the effort, as wide receiver Christian Kretz set the single-season record for receiving yards in a season. Kretz eclipsed Glenn Starks' record of 1,156 yards set in 1976 with 1,184 yards through just nine games this season. Kretz sits now one reception away from breaking King Phillips' record of 68 receptions set just last season.

Mills Dawson would finish with 233 passing yards and a touchdown while adding 15 rushing yards and a touchdown. Edward Chumley had another great game for the Javelinas, racking up 96 yards on the ground to go with a team-high 61 yards receiving. Matt Quick, Eric Dadzie jr and Rolland Trent each picked up a sack while Darius Pamplin snagged his first interception of the season. King Johsnon also picked up his first career touchdown late in the ball game.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will return to Javelina Stadium on Nov. 7 to take on Sul Ross State for senior day at Javelina Stadium. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaFB on X.
