Javelinas looking for second straight win in road clash with Sul Ross St.

Kingsville - Hoping to win back-to-back games for the second time since the turn of the calendar, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team is in Alpine for a 1:00 p.m. Saturday matchup with the Sul Ross St. Lobos.

The longest in-conference road trip of the year for the Javelinas began with a wire-to-wire victory of the Mustangs from Western New Mexico in Silver City on Thursday. Now, they are looking to win the fifth Lone Star Conference game of their season and move above .500 in conference play in 2026 as they take on the Lobos, who Kingsville beat in Alpine when the two teams faced off last year.

In the 11 LSC games that the team has played so far, it now has three different players averaging at least 5.3 rebounds per game and three different players putting up at least 9.6 points per game. Both stats point to aspects of the Javelinas' game that they have excelled at as of late - rebounding and balanced scoring.

"Consistency," Head Coach Michael Madrid said. "We play well in spurts and then we have clusters of turnovers and bad decisions. We have to continue to work to value the ball and each possession."

They will look to lean on both of those things in Saturday's matchup as the team hopes to stay undefeated all time against the Lobos (2-0).

Scouting the Competition: Sul Ross St. Lobos (2-15, 1-10 LSC)

In their second season back in the LSC, the Lobos have struggled, and have just one in-conference win heading into Saturday's matchup. That win, however, came last week in a win over their travel partner, Western New Mexico. Despite a home loss to Texas A&M-International on Thursday, Sul Ross will hope to ride their recent trip to the win column into Saturday's game against the Javelinas.

In addition to the recent win, Sul Ross has also played competitive games against other Lone Star foes in recent matchups, and have leaned on their veterans to do so. Three different players average at least 11 points per game for the Lobos, led by senior guard Victoria Aguayo, who puts up 11.1 to go along with 8.5 rebounds (third in LSC), 2.1 assists, and 3.9 steals per game (leads LSC, fourth in the nation).

"They do a tremendous job of spacing the floor and attacking the rim," Madrid said. "They have a number of players that draw fouls and they are an excellent free-throw shooting team."
