Javelinas earn third conference win thanks to electric Goldsmith performance

Kingsville - Junior guard Bryson Goldsmith scored a career-high 27 points as Texas A&M-Kingsville took down Cameron University, 85-83, Friday from the Steinke Physical Education Center.

Goldsmith put up the most points by a Javelina (6-6, 3-1 LSC) all-season long to help pave the way for an instant-classic victory over the Aggies (4-8, 1-3 LSC). The El Paso Texas native after brought down a career-high nine rebounds while notching three steals, his third three-plus steal game this season.

The Javelinas needed every little bit of Goldsmith's performance as well, as the Aggies scored in the eighties for the seventh time this season thanks to nine made three-pointers and 31 points from Michael Jones. The Javelinas however revived what had been a dormant offense, scoring their most points since 11/25 against the College of Biblical Studies.

With 14:29 left in the second half, Texas A&M-Kingsville found themselves trailing by seven after a made jumper from Cameron gave them their largest lead of the game. The Javelinas immediately cut into that lead with a made three-pointer from Goldsmith to bring it back to just a four-point deficit. Cameron eventually got it back to a seven-point lead after a made three-pointer by Jones before Jamier Turner gave the Javelinas yet another response, converting on an and-one layup to bring it back to just a four-point hole.

The offense kept the Javelinas within just two possessions, not allowing the Aggies to pull away in the second half. Another three-pointer from Goldsmith got it to just a three-point lead for Cameron. Allen Singleton cut it to a one-point deficit before Nate Garcia converted a tip-in and-one layup to put the Javelinas up two with 6;13 left in the contest.

A late three-pointer from Cameron brought it to a one point lead for the Javelinas with just 3:49 left in the ball game, however Goldsmith was able to convert on a pair of free-throws to bring it back to a three-point lead. On the ensuing possession, the Javelinas would crash the boards for back-to-back-to-back offensive rebounds, two of which came from Goldsmith and another one came from Daniel Sanchez, that led to a Goldsmith jumper to put the Javelinas up by ten.

Goldsmith was not done making an impact on the game however, as on Cameron's following possession, Goldsmith was able to strip the ball from Jordan Mitchell with under a minute left then converted a pair of free throws to build the Javelians' lead to seven.

The game was far from over however, as Cameron nailed a three points with 38 seconds left to cut it to five, and then converted an and-one layup to bring the Hogs' lead to just two. With a chance for the Aggies to tie, Sanchez came up with the defensive play of the game, blocking the tying layup attempt to preserve the Javelinas' lead. Cameron had one last chance to tie it from three, but missed their final shot as the Javelinas advanced to 3-1 in conference play.

Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to build momentum in conference play as it takes on Oklahoma Christian University Sunday at 3:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaMBB on X.
