Richardson, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not extend its winning streak as it fell, 58-96, Thursday against UT-Dallas at the UTD Activity Center.
What could go wrong did go wrong for the Javelinas (7-7, 4-2 LSC), who shot just 28.8 percent from the floor while committing 18 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Comets (3-10, 2-3 LSC) hit 12 three-pointers while shooting over 40 percent from the field to score a season-high in points for themselves.
From tip-off, the Javelinas could not get their offense going. UT-Dallas opened up the game on a 13-1 run in the first five minutes, as the Javelinas did not score their first basket until TJ Ford Jr hit a driving layup with 14:09 left in the game. It was all UT-Dallas from there, as they swiftly took control of the game and never let their foot off the gas.
A big reason as to why the Javelinas could not keep was the rebounding battle, as the Javelinas were out rebounded by the comets by 15. That led to UT-Dallas scoring 16 second-chance points as well as 32 fast-break points as well. The turnover battle was also costly for the Hogs, as UT-Dallas scored 20 points off of turnovers.
Bryson Goldsmith and
Jamir Turner finished with 11 points each, Turner also led the team in rebounding with seven.
Bryce Smith and
James Livingston each had three assists while
Caleb Carr had a team-high three blocks.
