Kingsville - Bryson Goldsmith was named the Lone Star Conference defensive player of the week after helping the Javelinas secure a 2-0 week the conference announced on Tuesday.
The Junior guard averaged 21.5 points and seven rebounds while adding in five steals and a pair of blocks to help the Javelians open up 2026 with a pair of wins over Cameron University and Oklahoma Christian. Goldsmith has a signature performance during Friday's contest against the Aggies, scoring a career-best 27 points, hauling in nine total rebounds and adding three steals all in just 21 minutes to help the Javelinas secure a 85-82 win.Â
Goldsmith followed up that performance with a 16 point, five rebound game against the Eagles on Sunday. He would add a pair of steals and two blocks to go with that output, marking it the first game of his career to have multiple steals and blocks. The native of El Paso performanced helped the Javelina's extend their conference winning streak to four games.

Bryce Smith in winning defensive player of the week honors, with Smith winning the award for his performance on Dec. 11 against UT-Permian Basin.
