Track and Field splitting crews, travelling to Boston, Houston

Kingsville - After a nearly-three-week break from competition, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's track and field teams will be splitting up their squads, sending a small crew of track runners to Boston for both the John Thomas Boston Terrier Classic and the Harvard Invitational, with the rest of the teams headed to Houston for the Robert Platt Invitational.

Though they were originally scheduled to have just one weekend off between meets, weather changed their plans, cancelling an Invitational in Houston that the Javelinas would have competed in last weekend.

"I'm excited for the meets this weekend," Head Coach Ryan Dall said. "It's never great to miss a competition opportunity, but we were able to get some good training in and and some good rest as well, so I think the athletes are ready to get back to competing this weekend and are excited to get back to a competition."

Now, the team will send 14 runners, nine men and five women, to Massachusetts to compete in a pair of meets, both of which will have live video broadcasts (linked on team schedule). The rest of the teams will be headed north to Houston, which is where the Javelinas last competed nearly three weeks ago. In total, 54 athletes (31 men, 23 women) will be back in the Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Despite the fact that it was nearly three full weeks ago, the last time the Javelinas competed in Houston, they posted an excellent weekend and left their mark all over the program record books. Combined, the two teams put up 11 new top 10 times/scores in TAMUK program history and earned themselves three of the possible Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week awards.

The teams will now hope to get back at and above that level quickly with, following this weekend, just two meets between them and the LSC Indoor Championships.
